Total return including dividends

Price is only half the story.

The formulaTotal return % = (current price − purchase price + dividends) ÷ purchase price × 100

Example

You bought a share at 0.500; it's now 0.550, and you received 0.030 in dividends:

Price return only(0.550 − 0.500) ÷ 0.500 = 10%
With dividends(0.550 − 0.500 + 0.030) ÷ 0.500
Total return= 16%

When comparing shares or funds, compare total return — especially in markets where dividends are a big part of returns.
