Percentage change in price
What "the share rose 15%" actually means.
Change % = (new price − old price) ÷ old price × 100Example 1: a rise
A share rises from 0.400 to 0.460 rials:
Difference0.460 − 0.400 = 0.060
Percentage0.060 ÷ 0.400 × 100
Change= +15%
Example 2: a fall
A share falls from 0.500 to 0.450:
Difference0.450 − 0.500 = −0.050
Percentage−0.050 ÷ 0.500 × 100
Change= −10%
A common surprise: a 10% fall followed by a 10% rise doesn't get you back, because the rise is measured from a smaller number:
10% fall100 − 10 = 90
10% rise90 + 9 = 99
